Who we are
Zimbabwe Confederation of Midwives (ZICOM) is a professional association for midwives. It consists of midwives from Public, Private Institutions and City Health Departments. It is the only legally registered midwives association in Zimbabwe, registered as a Trust and has a Board of Trustees and National Executive Committee.

ZICOM was formed under the leadership of a few champions such as Mrs Nester Moyo (now an ICM senior midwifery advisor), Ms Hagar Mapondera, Mrs Nduna, Dr Cynthia Zandile Chasokela, Dr Chamisa, Dr Christina Mudokwenyu Rawdon, Mr E Nyaruwe and many others. It started as a small group of less than 50 midwives. ZICOM was launched at Harare Central Hospital in 1995. The trust was registered on the 26th of July 2010 in Harare, Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe Confederation of Midwives is affiliated to the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM).

common questions
What is a registered midwife?
Registered midwives are primary maternity care providers who look after healthy pregnant people and their newborn babies. Registered midwives are well-educated healthcare professionals who are fully integrated in the public health care system. They care for women during their pregnancy, labour, birth and the postpartum period- including care of the newborn during the first six weeks after birth. Registered midwives practice evidence-based, client-centered maternity and newborn care.
